Abstract

This study deals with seawater desalination in many Arab countries including Algeria, this process becomes an inevitable option to tackle the water deficit considering the sea water to be an inexhaustible source. This study aims as well to review the reality of desalination technologies in the region, using the descriptive and analytical approach, the study has concluded with several results, the most important ones are : The size of plants in the Arab Gulf countries and the long experience of desalination methods will make these countries a global center for desalination technology; moreover desalination plants are a strategic choice to reach water security and economic development in Algeria. In addition to that, seawater desalination contributes to 17% of the fresh water sources in Algeria
